A Not Romantic Valentine's Post

"Oh, it's Valentine's Day this weekend? I hadn't noticed." Said no one reading this post. From online ads to the aisles of grocery stores, the color pink and lots of hearts have hit our eyes (if only for a moment). So I guess the appropriate topic to cover in this blurb would be romantic love and some cutsie list about valentines day. Except if you didn't read my title now would be the time look back at it and process what it might mean.

There are so many nuances of love. We could talk about romantic love and the spotlight it gets February 14th, or we could look at life you live every day and why you should love it.

Love is loosely defined by google (the ultimate source) as "an intense feeling of deep affection." In the slump of winter or periods of stress, we forget the affections we have for life and our complaints fall out of our lips like rains. Ok, or maybe that's just me. But below are five reasons that you should stop and realize you love life.

1. You are surrounded by friends and family that care...
Everyone has those days where they feel alone. "I'm the only one __(fill in the blank)___." Yet, I hate to break the new to you but there is probably still a group of people who feel alone. Thus, you're really not alone. Somewhere, I also believe there is a person in your life who is there for you. They listen to you and love you.  Those people support you like a rock and isn't life better when you acknowledge that the "I'm alone" idea is just a mental construct and not reality? It's really quite freeing.

2. You most likely are reading this blog inside a building...
We get stressed over bills, taxes, projects, deadlines, relationships, and the list unfurls off into the black holes of space. Yet, right now you have internet access and shelter. You should love the fact that your life might have problems but right now you are safe and living in a land of opportunity. You've got a roof and there's a good chance you'll have at least one meal tomorrow. Can you imagine what would happen if you used the energy from your worries to do something constructive? When we stop our worrying, we have the opportunity to end other people's worries.

3. You probably have something in life you care about...
There are these things called passion implanted in all of us. The other day someone told me a quote that said " Life. Because your alarm clock should not be what gets you out of bed in the morning."While we do have parts of our day that we dread, I'd guess 98.9% of us have a passion living deep inside we can enjoy in that same day. Love your passions and act on them. After all, each day is a chance for you to enjoy the breath in your lungs. Living in a "good enough" mindset will strangle your passions.  A life without purpose leaves a breathing man dead.

4. You have the ability to love others...
Yeah this one is a no-brainer. However, you know those feelings you get when another human shows that you matter and that they care? You can do that each day for the humans around you. Each day you have the chance to spread good feelings and destroy what's bad in the world. You're more of a superhero than you ever realized.

5. You have a life...
This one seems sappy. Well, dear reader, what kind of blog would this be without a sappy end-all thought. You can choose to live life loving it or hating it. But why not choose loving your life and therefore improve the quality of it? Honestly, just having the chance to wake up, learn more, eat good foods, see beautiful sights, hear melodic sounds, experience hurt, learn some more, and so much else adds to the quality of life. We can choose to dwell on the negative parts of having a life, but sometimes we ought to just admit that being able to experience the world can be beautiful. We have life and a chance for amelioration each morning.

So go. Love life. Spread love in all the ways you can.
